5 Small DIY Home Improvement Projects to Make Home a Little Less Boring

The United States is continuing to deal with countrywide quarantines thanks to the COVID-19 crisis. As the quarantine goes from weeks to months, millions of people are stuck at home trying to find something to occupy their time. Well, now may be the perfect time to tackle a few small home improvement projects.

Home improvement projects can be turned into whole family affairs. The results of your hard work can be beneficial for mental health and can increase your home equity. Back in 2018, Americans spent nearly $4 billion on home improvements and that number is expected to grow in 2020. Here are a few DIY projects that will seriously help your mood and your house without hurting your wallet.

Front Door

Your front door is the first impression your house gives, so make it a good one. If your door is old or chipped, give it an update with some paint. You can choose a bright springy color for the new season or something more subdued if you want a more sophisticated look. The entry hall of your house could also be updated with some new artwork or decorations.

Accent Wall

If you’re feeling bored or tired of your living spaces, try making an accent wall. An accent wall brings a lot of life and color into the room: it could be painted different colors or covered in unique wallpaper. Or maybe it’s the only wall without wallpaper. You could even install shiplap using plywood cut into planks. An accent wall is great to make things feel fresh and new without much hassle.

Stencils

A white tile bathroom can be both classic, and boring. If you want to spruce up your bathroom, backsplash, or even tile floors, grab a stencil and some paint and go to town. The small pops of color will really perk up your mood and eliminate boredom while making floors and walls look amazing. You can even use this technique with heavy-duty paint to make concrete floors and patios more interesting.

Hardware Update

If your kitchen, bathroom, or dresser are feeling bland, old, and boring you can easily update the hardware for a whole new look. If you don’t have the money to order new hardware, grab a can of spray paint in your favorite metallic color and give new life to old door knobs, drawer pulls, hinges, and more. Then, reinstall for a whole new look that costs practically nothing. You can even use this technique on full size door knobs and hinges.

Shelving

If you really want a new look in the kitchen, take the cabinet doors off of a few cabinets for open shelving. You can always use paint to cover up any stains or other issues. Alternatively, if you’re feeling braver, try hanging up some extra kitchen shelves on a blank wall to add extra storage and make things a little more visually interesting.

Quarantine is hard on everyone. After all, being stuck inside 24/7 is not easy. Keep yourself sane and make your house just a bit more interesting with subtle updates. You’ll feel better and your house will thank you.
