Simple Gingerbread Cookie Playdough

Gingerbread Cookie Playdough

We are in holiday mode here. Not as bad as a friends neighbor that has already put up their Christmas tree but enough to be thinking about things like cookies, candy, and hot cocoa. we are not fans of winter but, this part is fun. I made the kids some Gingerbread Cookie Playdough to satisfy their need for some seasonal fun that helps with their sensory needs while I catch up on work I am behind on.

Make your own Gingerbread Cookie Playdough

  • 2 cup plain flour
  • 1 cup salt
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 tbs melted coconut oil

Simply toss everything into your mixer and let it go for a fun cookie-inspired playdough. If you have a gluten allergy in the family swap out the flour for any four of your choice. I recommend the cheapest safe flour.

Ways to play with Gingerbread Cookie Playdough

This one is pretty simple. Grab your playdough, rollers, cookie cutters and other fun stuff. Let kids pretend to make their own gingerbread cookies, houses, and everything in between.

Leave out the oil and let this dry for scented gingerbread Christmas ornaments.
