Christmas this year won’t be a huge affair. I prefer a simple Christmas anyways but this last few weeks we got quite a few hard hits in our life so our budget is tighter than normal until we deal with everything. This means I need to find great deals because even an understated Holiday with 5 kids is an expensive one. The good news is I am a pro at doing Christmas on a budget. Check out these tips on how to afford more gifts this holiday season.
Shop early. While it may be a little late to get a head start on the holidays as I did in October you can get to work now so you are not spending money on last-minute gifts once the sales die out. Take advantage of online Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals even if going out to shop the crowded stores is not your thing. If you already missed these big sales Sello has plenty of internet deals to help you score some good prices on your list.
Make something meaningful to give a gift that makes the receiver feel loved. This year I am making each member of the family a bracelet with healing crystals. Such a simple gift that will make them feel loved everytime they see it. I snagged the natural stone beads one strand a week for a while allowing me to build a nice collection. Hopefully, I will find some fleece on sale to add some thick tied fleece blankets to the kid’s gifts for cheap. Nothing like plenty of warm blankets for a long cold winter.
Give things that are needed as gifts. Clothing, shoes, and other items your child needs make great gifts that are practical. I like to hit the clearance section to stock up on the clothes the kids need and give the kids new clothes each year for Christmas. Clearance prices allow you to get much more for your budget so it is worth checking when you walk past the clearance section at the store.
Snag your stocking stuffers at the dollar store. $1 hair packs of hair ties and candy-flavored chap sticks make great cheap stocking stuffers allowing you to give more of these small holiday gifts without busting your budget. The multipacks of glow sticks are a great deal for a fun way to brighten up a long cold night.
Look for ways to earn a little extra money. The holidays can be expensive but if you are crafty, have a skill others do not or are willing to do manual labor most people do not want to you can usually find some ways to make a little extra money on the side. Using rewards sites like Swagbucks is a great way to earn gift cards and payments to PayPal for online shopping.
