Remeber that idea floating around Facebook where someone attached hot dogs to a rake? Yeah, last weekend my husband and I gave it a try. I looked at him and asked if he wanted to do hot dogs over the fire pit. He commented that we did not have enough of the long grind forks to do it without taking forever. That old Facebook post came to mind. The next thing I know I was in the store with the three middle children buying the 2nd rake. We were going to cook hot dogs over the campfire with a rake!
As silly as it felt when you have a large group to cook for it is a lot safer than having preschoolers help. And well we could use a 2nd rake anyways so why not? I grabbed another of these folding rakes because I like how easy they are to store inside with the other tools and the metal construction is perfect for cooking over the firepit.
We were able to cook up 2 packs of hot dogs in about 5 minutes with the trick. Faster than a grill. I may have to buy a rake just for this. Now if only there was a way to cook up amazing burgers this fast?
I may have laughed at him. He made a “red neck” joke while cooking and by the early evening, he had a red neck of his own. He’s like Casper the Friendly Ghost but not so transparent and it shows big time at the start of the summer when he forgets sunscreen.
Simply slide hot dogs onto the tines of a metal rake one at a time Hold over the fire and cook until they are how you like them. This was perfect because Jeremy cooked some well and crispy like I like and left some just lightly cooked.
While I was putting up the T-poles Monkey and I found the day before Jeremy and our Little Man dug a hole and installed our fire pit we had planned out last year. We still have a lot of bricks to add that Monkey and I found at the back of the lot but we got off to a great start.
We trimmed back the shrubs and raked half the backyard but we still have a long way to go. I can’t wait to see the shrubs leaf all fluffy and green like they were when we bought the place. The late-running winter left the back looking a Tim Burton paradise that rivals the White House Christmas Decorations… Or perhaps inspired them?
We had a great time working out back and I am dying for next weekend to get here so we can celebrate his birthday at home. I made some great Faygo cupcakes for him to take to work yesterday on his birthday and we plan to spend the weekend burning off trimmings out back and starting the office and “man cave” conversions. Stop by for 31 days of fun and adventure with us as we celebrate Jeremy’s birthday and our 10th year of marriage.
