Mental Health Tips For Busy Moms

As a busy mom, it is easy to find yourself stressed out and overwhelmed. Mothers take on the mental load in the care of children and in many families the majority of the physical work in raising a family. This can be a major strain on mother ain’t time to focus on your own mental health is a great way to ensure that you are able to care for your family.

Find time to yourself for your mental health

As a mom it can be hard to find time for your self. It feels as if no matter what you do there is always a child around asking for something or just underfoot while you are trying to get things done. This can be overwhelming, frustrating, and lead to stress and anxiety. finding time to yourself can be a challenge.

If you have the energy to stay up after the kids go to bed this can be a great way to get some quiet time in. this can be the perfect time to relax with a good book or enjoy your favorite TV show while snacking.

If you do not have the energy to stay up after your kids go to bed look for ways to keep them occupied while you are enjoying some quiet time in the next room. Coloring, homemade playdough, or easy sensory activities are all great choices for keeping kids busy and out of trouble while you enjoy some quiet time to breathe. Working on a hobby, chatting with a friend, or making plans for something fun are all great ways to spend time on your own without your children.

Get out of the house

Even if it is just heading to the backyard or heading for a walk around the block getting outside in the fresh air and spending time in the sunshine is a great way to help improve your mental health.

Reading to the kids on a blanket in the yard or park, taking a business call on the front porch, or taking the time to start a garden to lower the cost of feeding your family whole foods are all great ways to get time outside while keeping up with your to-do list.

Break down your to-do list to reduce stress

One trick that always works to get my head on straight when stress starts to take over is breaking my to-do list down. When my anxiety gets out fo control my sister comes over and grabs a note pad and pen.

She sits down with me and helps me break down the household to-do list into little sections so I can work through it bit by bit rather than be overwhelmed by the big picture. This particularly helps when it comes to cleaning.

Kitchen:

  • Wash dishes
  • Wipe down counters
  • Clean out fridge
  • Wipe down appliances
  • Sweep floor
  • Mop floor
  • Take out trash

This is a great way to see how much you are accomplishing and to help you delegate chores to other members of the family to reduce the strain on you. You can even post this list in a public place and ask your family to pick tasks off the list to help you.

Put focus into your relationship

Being busy mothers can put a lot of stress on our relationships and even lead to intimacy issues without partners. It is important to spend time putting energy into your marriage to help it survive the stress of life.

Learn to say “no”

It can be easy to feel pressured to say yes. Learning to say no and not take more on than you can handle is a great way to help reduce your stress levels. Learn to say no and not take on more than you can handle. Other people’s happiness is not your reasonsibility.

Practice mindfulness.

Mindfulness is the act of living in the moment and not thinking about what you need to do, what hasn’t been done, or things that are stressing you out. This can be as simple as relaxing and doing your nails to as advanced as going to a yoga class.

Let go of perfection

No one is perfect, no event will be flawless, and no child will be perfect obedient at every turn. Take a deep breath and except life for its imperfections. Give yourself grace because you deserve it.
