Soft Sheep Sensory and Science Discovery Station

Preschool is a time of learning and discovery. Learning for young kids should be play based. Hands-on discovery helps children learn and grow. This is one of the amazing techniques used by Mother Goose Time to encourage children to grow and learn. I love how it fits into our educational philosophy. ย This Soft sheep sensory and science discovery station is one of those things I love.

This was part of Baa, Baa, Black Sheep day in the February Nursery Rhyme box. After teaching the children the Baa, Baa, Black Sheep Nursery Rhyme we discussed how sheep are soft like Baby Bears stuffed lamb.

In case you are like me and need a refresher here the words to Baa, Baa, Black Sheep are

Baa, baa, black sheep,
Have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir โ€” three bags full:
One for the master,
One for the dame,
And one for the little boy,
Who lives down the lane.

Gather small soft objects for your children. Great items to use include cotton balls, pompoms, scrap fabric squares, squares of soft tissue. Any small soft objects will work.

Encourage children to feel each of the objects and describe them. This one as a sensory challenged person myself I am grateful to have the changed to expose my children to sensory stimulation that will help them be comfortable with things that I have issues with.

Invite your child to use a pincer grip to move each item into a split container such as an ice cube tray, egg carton, or muffin tin. If your child struggles with this encourage them to try tweezers to move each item. We used stacking cups Mother Goose Time Sent in the past.
