We are fans of the Charlotte Mason Style of homeschool and opt to use it when the weather is nice due to the encouragement to get outside and enjoy the weather. We recently received a lifetime subscription to Homeschool Copywork to review for the Schoolhouse Review Crew. With 4 kids to educate that is a pretty big deal.
For Monkey we used All Creatures of Our God and King to give her a chance to learn some hymns while doing copywork to practice her handwriting skills. That is one major advantage to doing copywork. Children can memorize new things while practicing writing skills at the same time. this is one major reason Charlotte Mason is so loved by educators.
My son explored a bit but alas getting that boy to write is like pulling teeth. I know the time will come that he will want to so for now I am keeping him with just practicing a letter each time we sit to do handwriting. to my sons dismay Homeschool Copywork has that handled with Animal Alphabet Copywork Pages using one letter and one animal for each letter per page.
Homeschool Copywork also offers several bonus products including coloring sheets and notebooking pages. The copy work options include everything from bible and faith topics to classical artists and musicians, and even quotes from scientists allowing you to tie handwriting to nearly any other subject for effecting memorization and melding of topics getting more for the time you put into your school day leaving more time to get out and have fun.
As dorky as it sounds I did the 1 Corinthians 13 Homeschool Copywork book to practice my cursive. I placed each one into my journal added some doodles inspired by the ones in the book and wrote a few notes. 1 Corinthians 13 was part of our wedding ceremony and this was a blessing to me as Things have been a bit rough since our recent loss and this helped soothe my soul.
The lifetime membership can help save you money on homeschooling your family and a simple white board can save you hundreds more. Our printer head had issues during this review but, we quickly discovered that the PDF files display wonderfully on the tablet screen and using a white board for the actual copywork saved us a ton on paper and ink. For older students a note book or journal would be a great way to save on paper. For the youngest students I fell printing the coloring sheets is worth the ink and paper because coloring is such a great fine motor skill but you could also have them try to draw the pictures they see in the book.
