5 Tips to Keep Your Home Safe From Intruders

April 19, 2018

Security is very important. Your home should be the place where you feel the safest. You don’t want to lose that feeling of security, and that would happen if someone were to break into your home. Here are some ways you can better secure yourself and your home to deter a burglar or intruder if one should try to break in.

Get a deadbolt

It is wise to get a deadbolt on your doors along with the regular lock on your doorknob. It is important to get a lock that will be effective. The throw, or the piece that the bolt goes into the door frame, should be between one or two inches in length. You should also make sure the door frame is built to be as sturdy as possible.

Get a burglar safe

If someone does break into your house, you don’t want your valuables lying around to be easily stolen. That’s why you should put those items in a safe. A high-security burglar safe can protect between $50,000 and $1,500,000 worth of valuable content and can protect against safe crackers and even fires. You should put items like guns, money, important documents, and any other valuables in your burglar safe.

Get a burglar alarm

A security system is a great function that can protect your home even when you aren’t there. You can even purchase one online yourself and install it in around 30 minutes. There are several different kinds of burglar alarms, so you should do your research to find out which one is right for you. Just make sure you get one that contacts the police for you in case of a break in.

Leave lights on at night

You always want to make it look like someone is home. You can leave a light or the television on to make it look like you are there. You can also utilize motion sensor lights outside so they turn on when someone approaches your home. It’s smart to install them high up so they cannot be tampered with.

Landscape

You should keep hedges, trees, and vegetation down close to the exterior of your home so that a burglar or thief has no place to hide, lurk, or conceal themselves in any way. You should also keep your shades drawn so they cannot see inside your house.

No one wants to think about their house being burglarized, but unfortunately, anything is possible. This is why it is so important to be prepared for any kind of emergency. Follow some of these safety tips to decrease your chance of being burglarized and maintain a level of comfort in your home.
