Healthy Substitutions You Should Be Making In Your Kitchen

There are times when it is all you need to do to become healthier is to make a few easy swaps in the kitchen. This is a simple way to enrich your diet with vitamins, minerals, and important nutrients, remove bad fats, and assist in meeting your family’s dietary requirements.

I have learned from my experience that making small substitutions is a painless way to improve my family’s diet without even my picky eater husband knowing it.

Healthy substitutions to make in your kitchen

A few small substitutions do not take much time and can be an easy way to make your meals tastier and more filling while also making your meals healthier. Below are a few easy substitutions we love to make that don’t require a lot of work.

Use an air fryer

One of the best substitutions we made in our home for our health is to use an air fryer instead of a deep fryer. After my dad suffered from a heart attack, we decided to make a change that would be simple but effective.

It’s true that there are some things that make me wish we had a deep fryer, such as my husband’s shrimp, but most of the time we do not even care that we do not have a regular fryer.

Use Greek Yogurt in your diet

Making your baked goods healthier with greek yogurt is a great way to add a bit of nutrition to them. While you can use some great healthy substitutions for Greek yogurt in the kitchen at the end of the day Greek yogurt is a great way to increase the nutritional value of your food by adding plenty of protein and probiotics for your gut health.

Use more avocado

One of my favorite ways to increase the nutritional value of baked chocolate goods, from cookies to cakes to brownies, is to use avocados as one of the ingredients. The healthy fats and vitamins in Avacado make for a great substitution for eggs in brownies or to use as a substitute for vegetable oil in baked goods that have enough chocolate to hide the taste.

Swap your rice

I think it might be a good idea for you to consider replacing white rice with brown rice if you enjoy eating rice. In addition to the fact that brown rice is less processed and has a greater nutritional value, it is a simple swap that can be great for your health.

Cut the salt

An average person consumes a lot of salt in a day. Try reducing the amount of salt you consume and instead use a variety of herbs and spices to flavor the food. This is a great choice for your heart health.

As an alternative, powdered lemon is also a great substitute for salt if you are looking for a simple swap.

Swap out sugar

Substituting sugar with maple syrup is a great way to reduce your refined sugar intake. The body processes natural unrefined sugars much more easily and using maple or honey instead of sugar or corn syrup is a great way to make a healthy change in your life.

Try reducing your meat usage.

Using simple substitutions for ground beef is a great way to reduce your meat consumption. As an alternative to ground beef, beans can be easily hidden in your meals. Try your hand at using jackfruit and eggplant in place of meat in some of your favorite recipes.
