Avocados are very popular now. While being considered a mental thing this powerful fruit is great for everyone. When we start our kids on solid foods we always start with avocado for its healthy brain-boosting fat. There are many ways to eat avocado and it seems with creative minds take to it more great ideas pop up every day. Around here we have been finding avocadoes as low as 39 cents each on sale at Aldi or the fruit market.

How to cut an avocado

if you are new to avocados you quickly realize that you may not know how to cut into an avocado. With the large pit you can not cut them directly in half. To cut an avocado slice in until you hit the pit and turn the avocado in a full circle.

Remove the pit to slice the inside of the avocado or simply scoop it out of the peel depending on how you plan to use it.

To make cutting your avocado easy you can grab an avocado cutting tool.

How to store leftover avocado

Get the most from your avocado

Avocados are not at their prime for long and once you cut them the deteriorate even faster. To help prevent your avocado from going bad when you only use half of it you want to minimize how much air comes into contact with your avocado.

First, return the pit to the avocado if you have removed it from the half you are not using. The pit helps keep the avocado fresh longer.

Cover the remaining avocado to prevent air from coming into contact with the flesh. You can do this with a bit of plastic wrap or use an avocado saver to get the proper seal.

There are really endless ways to eat an avocado. We have a few favorites in this house that help us use up these healthy brain building fruits.

Avocados are great for just eating as slices. This is how we introduce them first to our babies when using baby led weaning. A nice soft avocado will much in their hands and mouth making think slices the perfect start to solid foods.

I for one am not a huge fan of avocados like my kids are. I do really enjoy adding blended avocado it our homemade apple sauce for Avocado apple sauce. This is something so simple but tastes great and can help boost young growing minds.
