How To Make Deviled Eggs
Deviled eggs are often served at parties and other social gatherings, and they can be made in advance and refrigerated until ready to serve. These are a classic Easter side dish that everyone loves.
Deviled eggs are a popular appetizer or snack that consists of hard-boiled eggs that have been cut in half and filled with a mixture of the egg yolks, mayonnaise, mustard, and other seasonings.
This simple mixture is then spooned or piped back into the egg whites and garnished with ingredients such as paprika or chopped herbs. Some variations of deviled eggs include adding ingredients such as diced pickles, olives, bacon, or cheese to the filling mixture. Deviled eggs are a simple and tasty way to use up leftover hard-boiled eggs and are sure to be a hit with your guests.
Paprika for deviled eggs
Peprika is a traditional spice used for flavoring and garnishing devield eggs. While you can use any paprika you have on hand I very much want to suggest using smoked paprika. This adds a richer flavor with a think of smoke that can really take your deviled eggs up a notch.
What you need for deviled eggs
- 6 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
- Paprika, for garnish (optional)
How to make deviled eggs
Place the eggs in a single layer in a saucepan and cover them with cold water. Bring the water to a boil over high heat, then remove the pan from the heat, cover, and let the eggs sit in the hot water for 10-12 minutes.
Drain the eggs and place them in a bowl of ice water to cool. Once they are cool, gently tap the eggs on a hard surface to crack the shells and then peel them under running water.
Cut the eggs in half lengthwise and carefully remove the yolks, placing them in a separate bowl. Set the egg whites aside.
Mash the yolks with a fork, then add the mayonnaise, mustard, salt, and pepper and mix well until smooth.
Using a spoon or a pastry bag fitted with a large tip, fill the egg whites with the yolk mixture.
Garnish the eggs with a sprinkle of paprika, if desired.
Serve the deviled eggs chilled or at room temperature. Enjoy!
