Are you looking for a unique way to save money in the long term? One great way to save money is with reusable menstrual care products.
Some of these options cost more to start but will allow you to save money over the long run while others cost as much as a box of tampons and will last you for years.
How much can you save with reusable menstrual products?
Most women spend a couple hundred dollars a year on things like pads and tampons to deal with their menstrual cycles. when you take a step into the world of reusable menstrual care products you can save that money helping to make a bit more wiggle room in your monthly budget.
What reusable menstrual care products are available?
There are many great reusable menstrual care products available on the market to help make it easier to save money and never have to worry about running out of what you need.
Menstrual Cups
Menstrual cups are my favorite everyday period products. This is because unlike other many other options cups are set and forget it for up to 12 hours. Menstrual cups are washable and reusable and you can get one for the average cost of a box of tampons.
I find these are extremely comfortable and I tend to be able to forget that I am even on my period because I have much fewer cramps than when I used to use disposable period products.
Menstrual disks
Menstrual disks come in two options. Disposable ones that need to be changed out twice a day and do not tend to save you much money due to their high cost. The other option is newer reusable menstrual disks that can be used over and over just like a menstrual cup.
Cloth pads and liners
Cloth pads and panty liners are a great option for personal care products. These will keep your period care products out of the landfills and save you money. Cloth pads and cloth panty liners are easy to buy online and can even be made at home with fairly basic sewing skills.
Period panties
“Period panties” no longer means the old ones you only wear on your period so you do not ruin your good ones. Now you can get panties with absorbent and even waterproof layers that allow you to wear them in place of pads and panty liners. These are a great way to stay comfortable and because they are reusable you can simply toss them in the washer and save money on buying pads and tampons.
Because of the lack of chemicals, period panties are great for people that have cramp issues and do not like to wear pads. These feel just like regular underwear but absorb your menstrual flow. This is one of the best period protection options for pre-teens and teens allowing them to be comfortable.
Reusable tampons
Crochet tampons can be used over and over again without having to worry about replacing them. This can save a lot of money in the long run. You can crochet your own tampons or buy premade crochet tampons at specialty stores or at craft fairs.
You can use a simple pattern to make your own cloth tampons that are easy to wash and dry fast making for a convenient way to save money using absorbent natural fabrics you already have in your home.
These easy-to-wash squares with simple strings attached are simply rolled and inserted like a tampon. You can purchase reusable tampon insertion devices that take the place of the applicator found on most disposable tampons.
