How To Keep Your Middle Schooler On Track
With so many big changes many parents are looking at the challenges kids are facing with school being out long term. This can be difficult for parents of middle schoolers that may be wondering how to help their child stay on track. Take a deep breath and know that this will all work out.
How to help keep your middle schooler on track.
Help your middle schooler keep track of their own learning. If your child doesn’t have a planner already get them one allowing them to track their time and keep up with what needs to be done. This organizational skill will serve them for the rest of their lives.
Have your child explore new hobbies and interests. Being home more now allows your child the time and freedom to try new things and find new interests. Not only is this great for mental development it allows for your child to learn through things they enjoy.
Participate in your child’s learning. Many schools are giving kids online learning and enrichment opportunities. Most of this is fun stuff that doesn’t count for your child grades but teaches your child things that they do not have time to learn in school.
Take this time to teach your child life lessons that will help them as they grow. Many people talk about how schools should teach adult life skills to kids. Now your child has time at home and many of you are home with your children as well you have a great opportunity to use this time for teaching your child the life skills you have never had the time for in the past. You can even learn a new skill right alongside your child.
Teach your child to give back. Spend time with your child working on volunteer projects that can help your child learn to be a productive member of the community.
Help your child find a love of learning. Now is a great time to get hands-on with learning and make it fun for your middle schooler. While young kids learn through play older kids can learn through active play and other interests just as much as elementary school children. Encourage your middle schooler to find fun ways to learn including science projects to encourage a lifetime love of learning.
Find books that can help keep your middle schooler on track.
I decided I would share some of our favorite books for middle school. I found these one-day last year while looking for a guide to help teach my oldest all of the grammar basics while brushing up myself. When Everything You Need to Ace English Language Arts in One Big Fat Notebook arrived I was impressed. This book was everything I dreamed of my notes being like. The ultimate cheat sheet for middle schoolers.
It didn’t take long before our collection grew. When we need details on how to do something or she has a question we do not know the answer for we pull out these books. I find them a great alternative to using Google for everything.
These books have great full-color notes and plenty of information. They pull kids no and give them a starting point for discovering new things. The Everything in one big fat notebook series has middle school and some high school books. We plan to add to our collection over time.
