Metro Detroit Staycation Ideas
Going on a vacation with such a large family is not a budget-friendly activity. We never go anywhere with less than a dozen people. We still need to have a break and enjoy ourselves. A great way to do this is to look for staycation ideas in Metro Detroit so we do not need to travel far.
You don’t have to get fancy to make the most of your staycation. Just staying home and having fun can work as well. If you are like me and enjoy getting out you will love these local Metro Detroit staycation ideas.
Belle Isle
My favorite place to take off to is Belle Isle. As a young child at one point, my father would take us to Belle Isle often. We loved the giant slide. I will never forget the time that my dad and uncle took me on a bike ride 10 miles to belle Ille and back. This is one of the reasons we moved over to this side of town so close to the neighborhood he owned a house in when him and my mom first got together near the 2 family income my mother had bought and lost many years ago.
I am not a fan of swimming at Belle Isle. The water feels gross to me and that drives my family crazy but Belle Isle has so much more to do than just swimming. Belle Isle has plenty of great activities to enjoy with your family. On the island, you can find a conservatory, museum, nature center and aquarium all packed with fun and learning opportunities perfect for homeschool field trips.
Greenfield Village and the Henry Ford Museum
While I admit I haven’t spent much time in the museum and when we go I prefer to spend my time in Greenfield Village where everything makes me feel so happy. Yet again I have memories of this place with dad in my early years who passed away last spring.
My kids love this place as much as I do. It is really the best place to go to get up close and personal and even hands-on with history. I credit this place as part of why we have such a love for history in our family.
