DIY Vapor Rub
Vapor rub is one of those cold season staples we all need. Sadly commercial versions contain large amounts of chemicals including petroleum jelly. Something you really do not want on your skin or the skin of your child. This homemade vapor rub nurashes skin while providing relief. The weather here has been so back and forth I keep getting sinus issues. This vapor rub and my shower disks keep me going.
While you could mix essential oils in oil and use that you will find it to be a bit too greasy for using though a cold. If you have any unscented lotion that is another option. If you want a thicker vapor rub similar to what you get at the store this makes a great think creamy vapor rub.
Homemade Vapor Rub base
- 1-ounce beeswax pellets
- 3-ounce choice oil, I used avocado oil for its nourishing properties.
Heat beeswax and oil together on low heat until melted. Add your essential oils and stir as the mixture cools.
Vapor Rub Essential Oil Options
Adult vapor run blend
- 5 drops eucalyptus essential oil
- 5 drops peppermint essential oil
- 3 drops cinnimon essential oil
Kid safe version
- 3 drops fir needle essential oil
- 3 drops spruce essential oil
- 3 drops spearmint essential oil
