Carpet Cleaning Hacks That Can Come In Handy
Don’t Rub, Always Blot
Most people make the mistake of trying to rub the stains on their carpets rather than blotting them. Rubbing stains make the stains get engraved deep into the carpet fibers, which makes them difficult to remove later on.
Due to potential friction during the rubbing the stains, the carpet fibers can get worn out over time, leading to premature damage to your beautiful carpet. Unless you want that to happen, you need to opt for an alternative method and that is blotting.
Blotting can be done by using paper towels or a clean cloth. It’s a process by which you put the paper towel or cloth onto the stain and allow the paper towel or cloth to absorb the stain. In that way, you don’t have to perform any rubbing, ultimately increasing the overall longevity of your gorgeous carpets.
Using Hydrogen Peroxide
Unless you’re not aware, hydrogen peroxide is a popular oxidizing agent and is a great solution to remove stains effortlessly. For example, if you’ve got blood stains on your carpet, then you can use hydrogen peroxide to remove them.
To do this you need to first soak the stain in water & soap, which will help in loosening up the blood molecules. Once done, you need to scrape the stains as much as you can before putting some amount of hydrogen peroxide onto the affected area.
Wait for at least one minute. After that, you need to blot the area with the paper towel and allow the carpet to dry before using it again.
Using Club Soda
There can be multiple scenarios where club soda can surely come in handy, especially for removing stains caused by wine or beer. All you need to do is soak a cloth or towel in club soda and then start blotting the stained area.
In case you need something more efficient, then you can mix the soda with some white vinegar and water, and you’ll be good to go. Directly apply the mixture onto the affected area and let the carpet fibres soak for at least fifteen to twenty minutes. Once done, simply soak up the remnants using a sponge.
Ice Cube Trick for Gum
If you have gum stuck in your carpet, place ice cubes in a plastic bag and apply it directly to the gum. This will harden the gum, making it easier to scrape off with a spoon or butter knife. Be gentle to avoid damaging the carpet fibers.
Baking Soda for Odor Removal
Sprinkle baking soda liberally over your carpet, focusing on areas with strong odors. Let it sit for a few hours or overnight to absorb the odors. Then, vacuum the carpet thoroughly to remove the baking soda.
Remember to always test any cleaning solution or hack on a small, inconspicuous area of your carpet first to ensure it doesn’t cause any damage or discoloration.
