Moon milk is one of the latest trendy drinks. It has been all over Pinterest and Instagram. Moon milk reminds me of a cross between a chi late and our favorite sleepy time tea. Moon milk is great for relaxing at the end of the day before you doze off or even for calming down after a long day.
What is moon milk
Moon milk is made with natural herbs, milk, and honey or maple for sweetener. Simple and easy to make and truly versatile with nearly endless options of what you can put into it. Many are skeptical about whether or not moon milk can help you sleep or not. The power is in the herbs you choose to use. Our recipe uses ashwagandha powder has many benefits including reducing stress and turmeric that reduces inflammation that can make it difficult to relax.
Simple moon milk recipe
- 1 cup of milk (we used almond)
- 1 tsp of Coconut oil
- ¼ tsp of fresh Ginger
- 1/2 tsp of fresh turmeric
- ¼ tsp cardamom powder
- 1 tsp of ashwagandha powder
- ¼ tsp of cinnamon
- Small pinch of lavender
- The tiniest pinch of Black pepper (helps the body absorb the turmeric)
- Honey or Maple Syrup to taste
Make your own moon milk
This is a simple soothing moon milk recipe. Place your milk into a pot over the stove. Add in your ginger and turmeric root and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and let simmer for 30 minutes. Remove from heat.
Once your milk and roots have finished simmering for 30 mins, add in your cardamon, ashwagandha, cinnamon, lavender, and pepper.
Let steep for 5 minutes.
Place your milk and herbs in a blender with your coconut oil and honey.
Blend until frothy.
Pour into a cup and relax with a good book before bed.
Dried ginger or turmeric powder can be used in place of the fresh roots. In this case, don’t simmer for 30 minutes. Instead, bring milk to a boil and add in all of your herbs and let steep for 5 minutes. Then add in your oil and honey and blend.
When using fresh roots, you need to simmer for longer to bring out the good for you properties of the roots. When using dried roots in powder form, they are ready for absorption.
